The Stations

I was at work the other day when I saw someone had put something up on our noticeboard. In a nutshell it was about not missing the ethos of life and enjoying every moment rather than waiting for moments to happen. It reminded me of a conversation I had in my head on a train journey from Edinburgh last month. It was a 4 hour journey and I had a lot of time to think.

I couldn't help but think that I wish I hit certain points in my life quicker than the train was arriving at its stations. The train stops at the station, drops/picks up its load and then move onto its next arrival point. It's exactly what we do in life isn't it!??!

I'll invest more time in the garden once I hit retirement

I'll wait until my child is put through school before I join the course

We'll wait until I find a better job until we can start a family

I won't sign up to do the marathon until my health improves

There's no point in moving until the house prices go down

I won't go on that holiday until I get the pay rise I was promised.

Do any of these sound similar to you? Because at the end of the day they are just excuses. We think we're better off waiting until we think the time is right to do things. Yet, in actual fact the grass may not be greener on the other side.

And then we get a little cynical when we hear of the person who died just as they retired. You feel bad because they had so much they had set out to do now they weren't working. When in truth they could have achieved some of those things before they died. So you see we all sit on this train waiting to arrive at the next station. We wait until the excuses fade until we have the confidence to do something. Life really is about the journey and not the station you're next going to arrive at. As you never know, you may never reach that station or set point in your life...because by then it's too late.

You've gotta dance like there's nobody watching,
Love like you'll never be hurt,
Sing like there's nobody listening,
And live like it's heaven on Earth!
