Bon Voyage Hodgepodge!

For what was an absolutely beautiful and sunny weekend, I now type this hodgepodge on a not so sunny and rainy day. Thank you for taking me away from the grey clouds Hodgepodge. If you want to take part, answer these questions and link up by pressing the button below. Enjoy!

1. What question do you often ask yourself?

Ha! This is a fun question as I ask myself a lot of questions like 'why did you lie in bed 5 minutes too long?' cause I normally leave for work a little late. Another one is 'why did you eat way past being full?' and then regret it when I feel like I have a massive food baby! Guess I ask myself a lot of little petty questions.

2. Do you grow roses? What's your favorite color of rose?  Ever been given a dozen roses?  Where was the prettiest rose or rose garden you remember seeing?

No I don't grow roses but they are one of my Granddad's favourite flowers. I love yellow roses the best because yellow is my favourite colour. Simon has bought me roses on many occasions - in fact he bought me some on Sunday. The prettiest rose garden I have seen was my Granddad's, when I was little he was always pruning and growing them.

3. Do you read the freshness dates on grocery store products?  Will you use eggs past their 'use by' date?  Take medication that's expired? Buy a dented can?

I do read the labels yes, particularly on dairy products like yoghurts and eggs because I want to buy the ones that'll last me the longest. I won't take medication that's expired because you're simply not meant to- especially antibiotics because the make-up of the medicene changes past expiry and can cause toxins. When it comes to meat I'll buy it on the day it expires and then freeze it! But I'll buy dented boxes and cans etc if they're being sold at a cheaper price.

4. Should athletes be role models?

Without a shadow of a doubt yes. I am always so disheartened when I hear about them cheating and failing drug tests etc. I think, in the UK especially, that the number of people interested in taking part in sports is decreasing (due to console games, TV etc). So I think it's so important to be role models and show people that sport is fun and when you work hard at it you can reach the top. I really think the Olympics helped last year in changing our generation's view! Just last week I heard two young girls talking about the Olympics and how amazing Jessica Enis was - she has obviously made an impression and a positive one at that!

5. Edmund Hillary of New Zealand and Tenzing Norgay of Nepal became the first explorers to reach the top of Mt. Everest on this date (May 29) back in 1953. What's something you hope to achieve in your lifetime?

I definitely want to become a Health Visitor within the next 5 years or so. I need to go back to university for a year though to earn my degree in it. As much I love hospital work and surgical care I know it isn't something I want to do long term. I am very very interested in public health, the services provided in the community and the developmental needs of both adults and children. I really want to work in the heart of reality which I feel is outside of the hospital setting.

6. What would you do if you had twenty acres of land and the money to develop it any way you choose?

I have no idea how to answer this question. At first lots of things enter my mind like a huge swimming pool, a park or a maze! But I'll never forget when I was little reading The Secret Garden and wishing I had the space in my back garden to have something as magical like that! So although 20 acres of land wouldn't be so much of a secret it would be tantalising like the book.

7. If I invite you to a party with a 7 PM start time, what time will I actually see you there?

Probably about 7.30pm. I never like to be the first one at a party but I don't want to be rudely late. Normally I leave my house at the time the party starts. Most of my friends live within a half hour drive so I feel that's acceptable.

8.  Insert your own random thought here.

This will be my last hodgepodge for 4 weeks. We head off to Florida next Wednesday when it goes live and on Tuesday I will be busy working and probably forgetting lots of things to pack. This week is a busy week of work, getting last bits done and seeing friends before we head off.  I'm back on 20th June which is a Wednesday, so will miss that day too :(. So I'll see you at the end of June Hodgepodge people!!!
