Poorly Gran.

Just wanted to write a quick post asking for all good vibes to be sent to my Gran. She had a very nasty fall on Sunday in her garden. Consequently, she broke her hip in two places and needed an operation Monday to fix it. I visited her on Sunday when it happened and the poor thing was in so much pain and shock. She is also really bruised, you can't tell what's her arm or skin because of all the bruising. She has a very weak heart so they weren't sure if it would survive the operation.

Luckily, when the op happened on Monday she came through but they are having problems stabilising her blood pressure and her previous heart conditions have been exacerbated by the anaesthesia. She's 81 so her old ticker is doing something right! It just seems to be one thing after another. We're hoping to have her home next week but her home is not at all suitable for someone who will need extensive physiotherapy for the next 2 months. So we're worried what will happen next? It's weird she's at the same hospital I work at and even though I'm a nurse and know the ins and outs of whats happened medically. At the end of the day's my flesh and blood and I'm still worried sick :(

My Gran and parents at graduation last July.

Plus, she's gutted she is missing my sister's baby shower this weekend since she was enjoying being apart of all the plans. I really hope she overcomes this as best as she can.

Get well soon Gran!

What I'm looking forward to this year.

So far to some up 2012? It has been awesome and I can honestly say it has been one of the best starts to a year ever. I never did a post about this in January but each year I choose a word that I want each year to reflect. Last year my word was 'hopeful'. I wanted to feel inspired for 2011 and I certainly achieved that.

I found it hard to choose a word for this year and it wasn't until mid January that I had the most perfect word to describe this year.

Blessed.

I want to feel so blessed this year. Don't get me wrong I feel very blessed already but I feel incredibly lucky to be seeing and doing what I am in 2012! I have huge plans and lots of exciting opportunities. It's almost to the point I want it to be the end of 2012 already so I can reflect on it - is that sad?!

But I do feel so blessed this year already and I just wanted to share why I feel so fortuitous! I'm at a point in my life where I feel very happy and I just want to document why so I can remember it forever.

March 2012 - I am so looking forward to seeing Jersey Boys up in London. It has been a show I have wanted to see for a long time. It goes to the top of my list and then another production comes out so it goes back into the second place. Simon is finally ticking that show off for me! Plus on March 20th, I go to America! LA, San Francisco, San Diego, Yosemite and Vegas I cannot wait to grace your side walks and attractions. Plus, in Vegas I will meet my blog/twitter friend April. So excited!!!!

April 2012 - hopefully if things go according to plan the Lobb family will be blessed with a new addition to the family. I CANNOT WAIT to be an aunty! I CANNOT WAIT to see my sister take on motherhood. I just CANNOT WAIT to meet him/her!

May 2012 - At the end of May Simon and I are taking a holiday together. Due to the nature of our jobs we only really see each other evenings and have the odd day off together. So we are going to his parents house in Malaga, Spain for a week. It's in a golf resort and Si plays golf REALLY well! So I guess I better get my clubs outs (no joke I called them bats the other day!).

June 2012 - It's the Queen's Jubilee! I am not a huge lover of the Royal family - sorry to any royal lovers but I just don't see the point in why we need a royal family?! But I do love a reason to celebrate being British and the jubilee will do most certainly do this! Plus, at the end of June I am going to dress up for the Henley Regatta! (bit like Ascot for racing but this is rowing instead.)

July 2012 - OLYMPICS LONDON 2012!!!! I have never been a massive sports fan but I do love me some of the Olympics. To me Athletes work dam hard to show off their skills compared to some over paid footballers on a pitch every weekend. To be able to showcase the world's finest athletes is a very proud moment for the UK. For anyone outside the UK I cannot tell you how excited London are to host this years Olympics. It's crazy town over there!!!!! There are countdown clocks in loads of places, signs everywhere reminding us and it's on the news virtually everyday that it's happening. I know other countries have worked hard to produce awesome Olympics but the UK have honestly worked rigorously to get this and I know we will put on a great Olympics! I really hope you tune in! I'm hopefully going to get tickets to see one of the events.

August 2012 - I am going on a girly holiday with my my sisters and a friend to Menorca. I'll get to see Oli again and lay in the sunshine for a week. Perfect combination!

September 2012 - there's nothing definite yet but I may be going to Barcelona again! In my Barcelona post I said I really wanted to experience Barcelona in the sunshine. It was lovely in the winter but I know in the summer it will be glorious! I'm thinking of taking Simon for his 27th birthday as his birthday is this month anyway.

October 2012 - this is the only month where I don't have something to really look forward to. Maybe I'll just rest this month and feel blessed doing nothing?!

November/December 2012 - AUSTRALIA! Enough said. It has been THE country I have been desperate to visit my whole life. Nothing will beat this!

I know and I am sure I have plenty of other things to feel blessed by but these really stand out. Other than that I am working loads to pay for all of this! I know many have asked how I afford all these trips etc but the honest answer is. I work for it and save really hard. My work are really understanding of my plans but I work all the hours I can to treat myself :)

I feel blessed for even having the chance to go to all these things. Let alone how I'll feel afterwards. What is your word for 2012?!

Mumbles & Grumbles

I'd like to pretend that I don't moan and that I don't grumble. I'm usually upbeat and rather happy but every once in a while I let that go! So here are my grumbles of late...and their solutions!
Me me me - Just of late I seem to hear some people who talk about themselves all the time! "My life is so crazy busy..." "People just don't get what I'm saying" "I need someone who is..." are just some of the sentences that are making my eyes roll in the back of my head. Quit it! The world doesn't evolve around you.
Muffin Tops- If you have a muffin-top, your trousers are too small. This can be easily solved by buying bigger trousers.
Tailgater's- Oh my life these guys have descended onto the roads of late. Please stop following so closely. There is no reason to get up so close to my rear end! In fact it just makes me want to go slower so no-one is winning. You’re just pissing me off. So my solution? Get off the road, learn to drive better or take a chill pill!
Long queues- ohhh I think this is the one that gets me riled up. I have patience, I need it for my job. But not when your in a long queue with one person at the cash til and their's Mr/Ms Corporate in the corner just standing there 'overseeing things.' When he/she could be on the til helping out, ever heard of customer service?!
Food talkers- I don't really want to see what's digesting in your mouth while you talk thanks. Conversation is much nicer when you have finished swallowing your edibles.
Slow Walkers- My 82 year old Gran can walk faster at times! Why dawdle?!
"Yeah like"- I have to admit I do this sometimes, okay a lot. But it grinds me when someone says it in conversation to me. "Yeah but like I said to her..." or "Yeah but like that's not how it happened..." This is not correct grammar or pronunciation! Solution: Speak normally (and that includes me!)
Mumblers- If you want people to understand you, you must speak clearly. Solution: Slow down. Say each word and remember it’s easier to say something clearly one time.
Well I sure feel better. What bees have been getting in your bonnet lately?!

Little bits of life.

I feel like I haven't updated much about life on here at all. In fact I don't feel like I have done a good blog post in a while. So I thought I would do a little update on things that have been happening around my corner of the internet.

I had a lovely Valentines day. We celebrated it the 15th because plonker over here had to do night shifts.  Simon really went to town and cooked me Paprika Chicken, decorated the table, got me beautiful flowers, a lovely card and tickets to see Jersey Boys. I cannot wait! He said my face was priceless. I got him a frame and decorated it with buttons that are his favourite colour and tickets to see star wars 3D at the IMAX in London. Now HIS face was priceless!

In 1 month and 2 days I head off to CALIFORNIA and VEGAS! I am so excited for this trip. It will be 11 days of fun, madness, picture taking and hopefully good weather. Does anyone know what the weather is like in California and Vegas end of March time?! No rain please.

Work is as busy as ever. I have reached a little defunct with it though. I feel like I have outgrown it and want to try something else. Unfortunately I am in contract until December so will have to stick it out until then. I love the surgery side still but I am just getting a little weary of the routine. I'd like to try something new!

Is it mean of me to say I am not surprised Whitney Houston has died? A great voice has left this Earth too soon though.

Simon and I went and saw The Muppets! I LOVED every second of it. I grew up with the Muppets and it totally took me back to my childhood. Some reviews have said the singing is a little fake. Hello they're puppets?!?! They're fake too! (don't tell my 5 year old self that though!). Also, another film that's a must see is War Horse. I saw it last month and it was a beautiful film!

He's clearly found a new girlfriend here....

I have gotten really into cooking. Simon made it a new years resolution to cook something new every week and he has stuck to his guns and done it. However, I help it out a fair bit and I have to say I have really really enjoyed it. You can make so many meals in like 15 minutes?!?! That may be funny to some people but cooking has always seemed like slavery to me haha! I think we need to work on presentation but we have cooked Beef in Black Bean Sauce, Spag Bol, Sweet and Sour Pork, Steak Fajitas and next week I am doing Thai Chicken....way better than eating out!

Beef in Black Bean Sauce & Noodles.

It's baby central again in my world. My sister is due in 8 weeks. 8 WEEKS! It's gone by so fast and her baby shower is in 2 weeks. I can't wait to meet my little niece/nephew. My uni friend Nicki gave birth to little Paige yesterday morning. My college friend Sam is due in July with her first baby and my very close friend Sacha is expecting her second baby due in September!!!

She had little Kaleb last July and they decided they wanted their kids close together in age. I'm so happy for them!!! They had been trying for Kaleb for 2 years and for her to fall pregnant so easily this time is a blessing!!!! I'm rooting for a girl this time haha.

Otherwise that's my round up in Becca world. Have a good weekend everyone and don't forget pancake day is next Tuesday!

23

My 23rd birthday has to certainly be up there with one of the best I have ever had. I am such a planner and usually plan what I am going to do and see. Well my boyfriend had other ideas and I sort of left the day up to him.

I'm glad I did.

I was spoilt rotten and not just by him but by all my friends/family. I got an awesome new digital camera from my parents. A cute little purse from my siblings, lots of jewellery and new music/dvd's! I was very lucky.

On the day Simon woke me up with a beautiful Swarovski necklace. I love Swarovski but a lot of their stuff I cannot afford so I was totally STOKED when I opened it. I didn't expect anything else and boy was I wrong!

I love the theatre and ever since it came out last month I have wanted to see Matilda: The Musical (and Shrek, Jersey Boys...etc). I have heard from tonnes of people how every show is sold out and you have to book in advance. So when I opened the card he got me, to see Matilda tickets was the best!!! We spent the day in London. We went to the Science museum as they have a new psychology/biology exhibition I have wanted to see. Afterwards we went for a walk to Hyde Park (I guess the equivalent to NYC Central Park). It has been snowing down south here so it was nice to walk in it. I even tested out my new camera and it's functions!

After our walk we went for dinner in Covent Garden and had noodles. It's my favourite Chinese food and it was SO yummy!!!! Then we headed to the best part of the day.

Matilda was one of my favourite books when I was little and I grew up on Roald Dahl books. He had an exquisite imagination and this production totally brought it to life. It was funny, sad, had great music and the kids in it were so talented!

I cannot thank this guy enough for making my birthday so enjoyable. And the birthday celebrations continue. I have a meal out with my school friends tonight and celebrating my sister's birthday tomorrow. It will be her last birthday before she becomes a Mummy in 8 weeks!

Have a great weekend!

Another year older.

Today this girl turns 23 years old.

I really don't know where the years go because it really does only feel like yesterday I was turning 16! Let alone 23 but I am going to make the most of my 23rd year of Becca-ness!

I love birthdays!

Barcelona Dos Parte.

I feel like I have been an awful blogger lately. I still have my blogging mojo but just finding the time to do a post is a little of a struggle. But as promised...although 5 days late...the second instalment of my trip to Barcelona, Spain!

Our last day in Barcelona doesn't seem as 'full' compared to the other days but we managed to fill out our day. If there is one thing you must see/do in Barcelona is visit their port. It is beauuutiful! If it were warmer I could have quite happily walked along all day. Below is a picture of me on the port with the main square of Barcelona as the backdrop.

Along the port there is an Aquarium so we spent the afternoon there. I also got to practice my Spanish a little here too hehe.

We then went shopping and had a look around the port area. To finish off our trip to Barcelona we went and sat on a bench, chatted and watched the sun set. It sounds kinda cliché but I have to say it was one of my favourite moments. Sometimes we get so busy trying to cram as much in, you forget you can still take it in when you stand still and just look. It ended a really lovely weekend.

I would definitely like to visit Barcelona again - maybe in the summer when I can wear my pretty summer dresses. It's a city that surpises you and has a lot more to show for it than you initially think.

Adios Barcelona! Eres una Ciudad preciosa.
