Dear 16 year old me.

One of my friends is going through a bad break up. You know the one where the girl breaks up after three years together the day before they're due to fly out to South Africa for Christmas kinda of break up? He's crushed, understandably.

I've done my best to be a good friend and he is on the mend, slowly. However, he got me thinking the other day when he said:

"I wish I could turn back to being, like I dunno 16, and telling myself that this would happen. That way I wouldn't be so hurt or at least more prepared"

Don't we all wish we knew what was ahead ourselves sometimes? But what he said was true! There are so many things I would tell my 16 year old self, so I have listed them below!

  • Don't get that half blonde hair, half brunette hair ever again. It will be a nightmare to grow out.
  • Please don't date Brad, he will never make you happy.
  • You'll reach a point in your 2nd year of nursing where you will want to give up, please don't because you definitely reach the finish line in 2010!
  • You actually have to learn to practice in order to play an instrument.
  • When your 18 doctors tell you, you will struggle to get pregnant due to PCOS. This does not ruin your life so please don't fret!
  • When you go to Becky's neon party in 3 years time don't go as bright yellow. You'll have a hellish night of everyone calling you a 'highlighter pen.'
  • Wear a foundation that actually matches your skin colour! It will not be a good look at college.
  • Give your parents a break sometimes. They struggle just as much as you at times and you don't even realise it.
  • When you get that niggle to blog at 17. DO IT! You'll meet the best people along the way.
  • Perfection doesn't exist girl! So quit trying to be!
  • Double vodka redbulls for your 21st taste worst on the way up than it does on the way down. Just warning you.
  • When your 19 and at Reading festival don't let your "boyfriend's" mates smoke weed and snort heroin in your tent. It's okay to say NO! Never be afraid to say no Rebecca.
  • The world can be a dark place at times but know your never alone.
  • Take more risks!!! like riding that roller-coaster when you go to Disney in 2010 should have been done earlier!
  • Your going to learn there is no such word as Can't! You can only 'do'!
  • And FYI: You'll be pleased you don't get that belly piercing when your 20.
  • Please have tissues ready when you watch The Notebook, PS I Love You and The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas. Otherwise you will have mascara stains all over you bed sheets.
  • Lastly: Don't try to fit in, just be yourself. Cause when your 22 you'll realise how being 'you' is the best person you can be. Smile even when it's raining, nothing is too big and know your loved, more than you'll ever know.
What would you tell your 16 year old self?
