Do I hear Bagpipes?

I decided a couple of months ago that with some of my savings I need to travel a bit more with it, rather than save it for a rainy day all the time. There are quite a few big holidays I want to save for like New York, Australia and hopefully Safari in Africa one day.

Also, I really want to visit cities and have mini vacations away. One of the joys of shift work is that when we do long stints of shifts we tend to get multiple days off as well. I might as well do something other than watch day time TV in bed at 1pm right? There are 4 cities I really want to visit that I have developed a fascination about.

Rome, Italy. Barcelona, Spain. Dublin, Ireland and Edinburgh, Scotland. Paris was also on that list but I visited that beautiful city two years ago. Well in 3 weeks time I will be walking the streets of Edinburgh and I am stinkingly excited! I very nearly booked a trip away to Rome but I am going to Spain at the end of June for a ten day holiday and I couldn't justify a pricey Italian trip in the same month as well.

I fell in love with the idea of visiting Edinburgh for two reasons.

view from Arthurs seat looking over Edinburgh via google images.

1) I know Laura Anne and Ruth who I have met through the blogosphere live there and I sincerely hope I do get to meet them. Also, a friend of mine attends university there and I have not seen her for about a year.

 2) I am not sure if some people agree but it was because of this book.

And it was barely even set in Scotland. It started out in Edinburgh and finished in Edinburgh but the way the author described it made me want to go there! If an author can do that to their readers then a job well done.

There is a particular scene where they are talking about a hill called Arthur's seat which is a set of hills that look over Edinburgh. I need to go there stat! Plus, I cannot wait to visit Edinburgh Castle, see the zoo, tour the dungeons and do some shopping. I am not trying Haggis though.

I cannot wait for the 6th June!

Take lots of pictures, and don't eat the haggus if you really don't want to. =]

I visited Edinburgh and it was WONDERFUL!!! It has been my favorite place out of all that I've had the chance to visit. All the scenery is gorgeous. If you're a history buff it's especially fun. Everything is very enchanted feeling and just a great experience that you'll never forget. I actually stayed in a castle in further out and hiked to a bus stop every day to get to the city but still great! I can't wait to hear about your travels! Have fun!
